1st post – hospitalization walk……….if you can call it that

Did my first post hospitalization walk today. Boy…….that was a mistake!

Right from the git go , things didn’t feel right. I knew I would have a hard time with this walk but didn’t realize just how much. First of all I wouldn’t feel my legs so , proper walking technique went right out the window. Stretching was also out of the question. I think a lot of that had to do with not walking and laying in a hospital bed for 5 days, doing steroids, etc. I also had to purse- lip the whole trek and stop for a breathing-break every 1/2 mile which I normally don’t need to do until the last couple of miles. My starting peak flow was 400 ( my baseline is 550) After this 3 mile walk was over, my peak flow was 250. I pre-neb’d before I started this walk but, still had to use the inhaler 3 times.

At this rate it will take me 2 weeks to get back up to my daily walk level of 6 miles. With only 5 weeks left till the next marathon, this is going to be very iffy..
