Got my finishers certificate and the official results book for the 2010 Boston marathon in the mail today.

Out of the 23,177 people who started the race, only 22,721 actually finished it. And yours truly has the distinction of being the 22,721st person to cross the finish line. In other words…. I finished the race DEAD LAST! (Pretty cool eh?)
I mean if you’re gonna be slow at something, you might as well excel at it, right? But hey, last place or not, I still finished 15 minutes faster than last year. And who knows, maybe I’ll shave yet another 15 minutes off next years race.

( First place— Cheruiyot, Robert Kiprono 2:05:52)

( Last place— Stephen Gaudet 7:17;47)

And in case you’re curious to see what it looks like to come in dead last at the Boston marathon, here’s the last 6 and a half minutes of me doing just that.

That's really cool, congratulations! Much more impressive than coming nearly last, but not quite, which is my speciality 🙂

Woohoo!!! PLUS, you had all the spectators to yourself didn’t ya? How many others can say THAT?

You rock, end of story 🙂

  3. I'm just thankful for making the list at all. Nearly 600 "healthy" runners, didn't even finish the race.

  4. What's that old adage-It's not the winning, it's the taking part that counts-and in this case, like you said, when a massive bunch of healthy runners didn't even finish, this is as good as winning your own personal struggle/race. Awesome to get the last place though, love it! x

you did good/better late than never!!!!!!! hey just was readin about zzithromax for 12 weeks will help or get rid of asthma ???? what do you know about this ????? thanks marsh

    1. Stephen says:

That’s a pretty common treatment now for hardcore asthmatics. I was actually on Azithro for 6 months, several years ago,but it didn’t seem to help. It might help reduce flare- ups in some asthmatics, but Ive never heard of it actually getting rid of asthma.

Pretty funny, Stephen. But come to NY – at 7 or 8 hours, even you wouldn't finish last.

    1. Stephen says:

Ha ha..very funny. Believe me Cris, if there’s a race out there worth doing, Id find a way to finish last:-)

…Butting in here, Marsh and Steve….(((I'm on Azithromycin permanently-because of my bronchiectasis component. It has def helped reduce the number of infection sparked asthmatic type flares,-ie, I've only had one pneumonia episode and have managed to clear my MRSA for a time- but I can't say whether I feel I have any less actual true asthma inflammation from being on it. My dose is an every other day one-and I've been on it for around 2 years now!))))

    1. Stephen says:

Hi Sus, I didn’t know you had bronchiectasis , that sucks. No wonder you get so sick and why you require oxygen. I’m lucky in that I very seldom pick up an infection. In fact, Ive only had pneumonia twice in my entire life. I suppose the reason antibiotic therapy didn’t work on me , is because there’s nothing there to kill.

    Congratulations champ.

  9. Mike McBride says:

I rather liked being dead last in 2009. I wonder if I am dead last from the non-finishing group.
Not finishing races in MA seems to be a skill I'm acquiring.

been really bad at keeping up to date with reading blogs. It doesnt matter where you came int he race whether it is first or last or anywhere in the middle. It is just great you finished it as millions of people wouldnt have even contemplated doing a marathon let alone doing one with dodgy ariways!!!! x
