In addition to a litany of medical tests, UCSF requires all of their lung transplant candidates to follow a strict set of rules, including having a caregiver plan in place during the initial recovery process. They require you to have someone with you around the clock while staying at a local hotel for a period of 6 weeks following discharge from the hospital.
Last week we finally got together with the transplant social worker to present and discuss my plan. This particular requirement has been very difficult for me, because I hate asking people for help. But thanks to Douglas, my sisters and some very awesome friends, my caregiver plan was approved and I can now move on to the next step.
